Our latest Harbour on the Road, comes from China where Oyvinn Rimer (Research Analyst) is currently visiting.

Despite the focus of many analysts on Chinese construction and manufacturing, there is another important theme becoming apparent; the Chinese domestic consumer.

In the accompanying video, Harbour Research Analyst and resident China expert Oyvinn Rimer briefly outlines his thoughts on the Chinese import story from his current trip to China. Despite what are perceived as headwinds, such as the increasing scrutiny and regulatory demands on e-commerce from the government, and a softening manufacturing and resource consumption story, the Chinese consumer is becoming an increasingly important part of Chinese GDP (See chart below).

Oyvinn has further thoughts on the next major export of China, namely tourists, and will build on both of these topics once he has had a chance to return and digest his findings.
